MatchaBar was founded by brothers Max and Graham Fortgang in Brooklyn, New York. As native New Yorkers, entrepreneurs, and full-time students, the pair were full-blown caffeine addicts. Venturing to a tea retailer on the lower east side, the brothers were first introduced to matcha by chance. In the weeks and months that followed, they shared in a matcha ritual at Max’s East Village apartment, falling in love with the feeling it inspired within them. As they delved deeper into matcha, Max & Graham became fixated on the idea of re-inventing this ancient tradition with a New York twist...

MatchaBar opened a flagship cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in September of 2014, making history as they opened New York’s first specialty matcha cafe! In the Fall of 2015, MatchaBar Manhattan opened its doors, just across the river in Chelsea! Shortly after, the team announced the launch of a new venture: a bottle product.
